Rosemary is a goldfish and Lester is a cat. Lester was fishing for Rosemary and knocked over the fishbowl which broke, spilling water on the floor. Lester lost interest as Rosemary flopped around till she died. Lester took a nap.

The doctor was a woman who was married to the man, who, unbeknownst to her until now, was a bigamist.

(I first heard this story many years ago when women doctors were a rarity).
